About
The About page is the hardest page on any website that I find is the hardest to write. What is it that people want to read when they come to an About page anyway?
Let's see if I can answer that question.
Perhaps it interests you to know I have fiddled around with photography since I was 11 years old? My grandfather gave me my first camera (a 35mm Pentax SLR, which I still have) in which I would have to select the settings for manually. I remember taking photos during a Grade 6 class trip to Pitt Polder in Pitt Meadows, BC. There was a beaver swimming in the water and I snapped as many photos as I could before he dove under the water. I would like to think of that day as the first day I found a new passion.
I have not been into photography as much as I would have liked to since the beginning, but that all changed when I purchased my first digital camera. Yup, it was a point and shoot by Hewlett Packard. I think it was not even a megapixel in resolution.
From there I upgraded to a Canon point and shoot (Canon Powershot A60). I could finally play with the manual controls of a digital camera again. Playing with the Shutter speed and Aperture without having the camera's brain do it for me was a turning point, I think, in my photography.
Ever since purchasing my Canon dSLR, I've been pretty gun-ho about getting out as much as possible with my camera and working on my photography. Every so often I look back at my previous photography and compare it with what I am doing now and see a large improvement. I try and learn something new, in regards to photography, every day I can.
Media Accredited Events
In an effort to gain more photographic experience and network with people within the photography industry, I have been looking at various ways of being media accredited for various events around the Metro Vancouver area. Events I have attended as media (for photography) have been:- LG FIS Snowboard World Cup 2009 at Cypress Mountain
- Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival 2009 (WSSF)
- Hockey Canada Cup - Women's Hockey 2009
- Vancouver 2010 Winter Paralympic Games
- Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival 2010
I am always on the lookout for more events which I can attend as a photographer, not only to increase my experience and portfolio, but to also do what I love doing most; capture the world around me digitally.
Published Works
One common goal among photographers is to be published. Seeing your photographic talents in newspapers, magazines or books is a great experience when it happens.
