The weather here in Pitt Meadow was gorgeous and I wanted to get home, pick up my camera and head out to the dyke system of Pitt Meadows to capture the snow covered peaks of Golden Ears. As I got out of my car I noticed that Mount Baker looked huge and thought I would try and get the detail of the massive dormant volcano by creating some HDR shots of it. Unfortunately I did not have my tripod with me so the HDR shots I took using Auto-Bracket Exposures did not all turn out like I hoped for.

Mount Baker

The above shot almost looks like it was painted! Even though Pitt Meadows is in British Columbia, Canada we get a really impressive view of Mount Baker which resides in Washington State, USA. The red bushes in the foreground are one of MANY blueberry farms here in Pitt Meadows. We’re considered the Blueberry capital of the world! Yum!

After playing at the river edge I turned around and though this might look like a decent shot for an HDR photo. I rested my camera on the edge of a garbage can. I like how the green came out.

This shot was taken holding the camera along my arm to try and steady it. Actually I had a few great shots that I though would work for HDR but since I am not as steady as a tripod they looked really odd and almost ‘ghost’ like. The above shot was the best from freestanding hand-held at roughly 300mm focal length.

If you are curious as to what else I shot during my walk here are a couple more photos…

Beautiful pictures. Today was spectacular wasn’t it? I enjoyed a walk along the Coquitlam River and wished, the whole time, that I had brought my camera along!

I try and bring my camera everywhere I go. If it isn’t convenient for my dSLR then I bring my little compact digicam with me. If that fails, then I do have my iPhone and my new Blackberry 8330 lol

Wow Tyler! Your HDR stuff is getting more and more incredible. The colour in the red brush in front of the mountain is something else.

Thanks! I plan on getting that Baker photo printed on canvas as large as I can without loosing the quality. It’s almost painting like!
