On a recent walk with Robyn around our neighbourhood we came across this little item, discarded by its former owner. Sure we live in the beautiful West End (or English Bay) which is seen as a large tourist area during sunny days, but since we are part of the downtown core of Vancouver it doesn’t surprise me to find this lovely crack pipe just laying on the ground. Ok, it did surprise me to actually see it.
Perhaps its previous owner dropped it in the snow and it showed up after the rains? It looks pretty old. Typically we don’t see things like this on our streets. The allies perhaps but even then I don’t think I’ve seen anything like this just laying about. Come to think of it, we did see a needle not to long ago but I cannot recall where that was. Guess it’s just one of those things we just shrug off and keep going.

Thanks to the OnSite/InSite Program in the Downtown Eastside this is not as common of an occurance that it once was. Each periphenalia that is discarded and found on the streets is from one more addicted person who lacks the necessary programs to help them. I see this photo as society’s ill view towards our most misunderstood citizens.

Great depth of focus, Tyler. I’ve been meaning to ask you, have you taken any photos of the fog in Vancouver? I’ve been so busy lately but I’ve been hoping that maybe you managed to snap a couple
