With the weather here in Vancouver turning into what we normally receive (rain), Robyn and I decided to get out and go for a fun hike in West Vancouver at Lighthouse Park. The special thing about Lighthouse Park is that it has the Atkinson Lighthouse which can be seen as a Vancouver icon.
For those interested in hiking around Lighthouse Park I have created a small trail map with Robyn’s and mine route through the park which took roughly 2.5 hours. We stopped to take photos in the rain and look at the lookout points along the way.

This is the Lighthouse Park trail map in West Vancouver which also takes you to Atkinson Point Lighthouse. The trail marked in Red is what we took. The trail in green is some random route of some random person.
The above photo was taken with my Canon SD750 on a 10 second timer resting on a small low railing of a foot bridge. I believe the shutter speed was about 0.3″. I did not take my Canon XSi due to the rain.
You can start the journey from the Lighthouse Park parking lot which would be easier to find than the more hidden residential access which is marked as the big red star at the top with the name of the street.
From the Parking lot you can follow our route:
Salal Loop -> Deer Fern Trail -> Maple Trail -> Arbutus Trail and you can stop at Eagle Point which offers a really nice view of Vancouver (West, North, DTC) as well as the UBC area across the water.
Follow the Arbutus Trail around south onto Valley Trail which eventually leads you to the camp area of Atkinson Lighthouse.
You can head west onto the Shore Pine Trail which offers many views of the ocean, Aktinson Lightouse as well as Bowen Island. Shore Pine Trail then joins up in the north to Juniper which you can take back to the parking lot.
Overall it is a great hike and I would say the trails we went on were not stroller friendly. There is also some steady incline parts but the path is in great shape and there should not be any slippage issues.
You can check out the rest of my photos on Flickr from our morning hike. Recent Flickr Uploads

I have been to Lighthouse park a few times and it is always a fun place to visit. I have been wanting to go backfor a while now to capture the Lighthouse during sunset or maybe sunrise.

Even though I’ve lived in Vancouver my whole life, I don’t think I’ve ever been to Lighthouse Park. Looks like a nice place for a hike.

It’s a nice hike/walk depending on the part you do. Just gotta get yourself back over to West Vancouver
